Note from the artist:
This is a compilation of information I have gathered in my years of working with semi-precious stones. It reflects my own interest in the healing properties of the stones used in my jewelry designs. I do not consider myself to be an expert on the powers of healing stones, but I enjoy working with energy, the chakras, and learning about the stones.
Please seek professional medical assistance for serious health conditions.
Amber: A hard, translucent, yellow, orange or brownish-yellow fossil resin from pine trees that flouorished 40-60 million years ago. Allows the body to transform negative energy into positive energy. Its sunny, bright, golden color enhances a calming of the nerves and revitalizing of the spirit. Is believed to purify the body by absorbing negative energy and balancing the endocrine and digestive systems, allowing the body to heal itself. Allows the stabilization of the heart, spleen and base of the spine. Helps balance mind, body and spirit. Helpful for persons who get depressed easily, or have negative physical body energy. Yellow-red is associated with healing and energizing of the 2nd chakra, Svadhishthana, which governs the pelvic cavity and reproductive organs. Yellow-orange color is associated with the energy of the 3rd chakra, or Manipura, which controls the abdominal organs.
Amethyst: Transparent quartz crystal colored purple by a traces of ferric iron. Is considered to be the stone of spirituality and contentment, assisting with the transformation of negative energy into positive. Some believe amethysts emit energy for healing eye problems, hypogylycemia, dyslexia, headaches, skin disorders and blood clots. Has been recommended by mystics in the treatment of diseases of overindulgence such as alcoholism, addictions, gout, diabetes, and urinary problems. Is thought to stabilize, ground and calm, while bringing about strength, cooperation and peace. Purple colored stones are associated with the healing energy of the 6th chakra, Ajna or third eye, governing the pituitary and higher brain centers.
Aquamarine: A pale blue-green variety of beryllium aluminum silicate. Believed to be a stone of courage, helping one to be in control. Is thought to help judgemental people become more tolerant. Has been used as a remedy for neck and head disorders, jaw troubles, headaches, choking, and swollen neck glands. Aquamarine is often used to stimulate and clear the throat chakra leading to enhanced communication. It has been recommended to help concentration; to treat insomnia, vascular diseases, stomach troubles, liver and abdominal troubles; and to help calm the mind, body and spirit. Blue color stones are associated with the 5th chakra, Vishuddha, governning the throat area.

Balances the emotional body with spirituality, and helps one to identify and heal past events which cause blockage in the body. Blue color stones are associated with the 5th chakra, Vishuddha, governning the throat area.
Citrine: Yellow, transparent quartz; natural citrine is relatively rare. Dissipates negative energy and stimulates the 3rd chakra. Complements the bodys natural healing energies. Is said to help decrease fears and improve healing of family or group problems. Citrine is believed to enhance endurance and intuition, to bring joy into life. Yellow-orange color is associated with the energy of the 3rd chakra, or Manipura, which controls the abdominal organs.
Garnet: Natures bounty, garnet is a rich combination of the minerals of calcium, aluminum, magnesium, manganese, chromium and/or iron silicate. The garnets used in my works of art are generally a deep, rich burgundy red color, the color often associated with blood. Mystics believe that these deep red garnets improve blood circulation and strengthen the heart. Garnets help allow the grounding of spirit in the body and the ability to work lovingly on the physical plane. Some say that garnets help to remove negative energy from the chakras and enhance feelings of devotion and love to others. Garnets have been thought to preserve health, honor and safety, and aid in improving moods of abandonment. The deep red color of garnet is associated with the 1st chakra, Muladhara, which governs the adrenal glands and the excretory pathway of the body including the colon, rectum, and anus.
Hematite: Iron oxide; color can be silvery, red-brown, or black. Its streak will always be the color of blood. Mystics currently recommend hematite for many blood related issues such as high blood pressure, inflammation, ulcers, anemia, menstrual problems, and bladder/kidney problems. It is thought to increase memory and original thinking. Large stones may help create a calming atmosphere, allowing one to realize that the only limitations are those in ones own mind. The color of hematite is associated with the lower chakras 1, Muladhara, and 2, Svadhishthana, governing the reproductive and excretory pathways (see above).
Moonstone: Either of two feldspars, composed of potassium aluminum silicate or sodium aluminum silicate. Both have a pale, silky, pearl-like sheen and can be white, pale blue, creamy yellow, brown, pale yellow, pale peach or apricot in color. Moonstones have been recommended by mystics to treat insomnia, water retention, menopause, PMS and fertility problems. Moonstones are believed to help one gracefully accept the transitions in life. It helps with balancing, soothing and healing of the emotions, aligning them with the higher self. Moonstones are thought to promote good fortune. The color of moonstone I most often use in my designs are the whitest, with shimmer of blue-irridescence on various angles. Thus they would most often be associated with the higher chakras, #5, Vishuddha, governning the throat area; and 7, Sahasrata or Crown chakra, governing the highest brain centers allowing Oneness with God, Peace, and Wisdom.
Onyx: Silicon Dioxide, naturally occurs in black, brown or red. Black onyx has been used to help wounds heal, and in childbirth. Some have said onyx is helpful in those who fear death or who are dealing with death, grounding the spirit forces in the body. It helps to gain the ability to work lovingly on the physical plane. It has been said to improve skin, nails, hair, and heart. Black onyx is associated with the 1st chakra, Muladhara, governing the adrenal glands, colon, rectum, and anus.
Peridot: Magnesium Iron Silicate, occurs in yellowish-green, occasionally very green. Has been called evening emerald. Peridot has been recommended to treat many ailments such as colitis, lung congestion, constipation, fever, ulcers. It is thought to release deeply suppressed trauma from the emotions and improve heart-soul consciousness. Peridot is believed to transform anger and jealousy into more positive energy and is useful in the cleansing and healing process where hurt feelings, or bruised egos, are involved. It has even been considered helpful in healing troubled relationships. Mentally stimulating and physically regenerating, peridot will improve ones sense of well being. The yellow-green color is associated with the energy of the 3rd chakra, or Manipura, which controls the abdominal organs, and the 4th chakra, Anahata or heart chakra, which governs the thymus, heart, ribcage and lungs.
Pearls: Most people know that pearls come from oysters. The entry of a foreign body, such as sand, inside the oysters shell stimulates the oyster to produce layers of a protective coating of nacre (calcium carbonate) to envelop the irritating foreign body thereby reducing the irritation. In my designs, I generally use fresh water cultured pearls. I also use pearls which have been heat treated to produce various permanent colors such as olive green, pink, lavender, purple, and shades of blue-black. Pearls were considered sacred in ancient times. Mystics have prescribed powdered pearls, taken as medicine for variety of ailments such as stomach ulcers, and cancers of the digestive system. Pearls are said to allow calming or soothing of the pituitary gland. The color of white pearls is associated with the 7th chakra, Sahasrata or Crown chakra, governing the highest brain centers allowing Oneness with God, Peace, and Wisdom.
Rose Quartz: Composed of silicon dioxide, rose quartz stones most often occur as large, chunky masses rather than its rare crystal forms. This beautiful stone, being in the powerful healing quartz family, is believed to heal any wound that the heart has accumulated.
It is always associated with love, inner peace, tenderness, solace, nurturing, and joy.
Rose quartz is said to comfort and heal broken hearts, soothe heart pain, relieve stress, and is considered essential to self-fulfillment. The pink color of rose quartz is associated with the 4th chakra, Anahata or heart chakra, which governs the thymus, heart, ribcage and lungs.

Sodalite helps clear the old patterns from the sub-conscious to open the space for consciousness. Some believe sodalite helps dissipate guilt, fear and inner chaos. Its deep blue-indigo color is associated with the 6th chakra, Ajna or third eye, governing the pituitary and higher brain centers.
Turquoise: Composed of hydrous copper aluminum phosphate, turquoise may be found in any shade between blue and green. Most natural turquoise sold today is color enhanced by impregnating with wax, plastic or sodium silicate and often with dye. Turquoise is the primary sacred stone of the Native American tribes of the southwestern United States. Traditionally, every Navajo always carried a turquoise stone, and it was believed that a turquoise stone thrown into the river would bring rain. Turquoise was used to guard against evil spirits and as offerings to the gods. It has been traded among many Native American tribes due to its spiritual value. Some cultures thought of turquoise as a lucky stone, and carrying it would bring them luck. Others thought turquoise would prevent them from accidents and injuries involving falling. Mystic healers have said that turquoise helps the body eliminate excess mucous. It attracts new friends and lovers, money and happiness. Turquoise is considered to be an awesome healing stone, bringing peace and balance, it protects and grounds allowing balanced emotional expression. The blue-green color of turquoise is associated with the 4th chakra, Anahata or heart chakra, which governs the thymus, heart, ribcage and lungs; and the 5th chakra, Vishuddha, governning the throat area.
